If you have additional questions about studying philosophy, please see the Student Handbook (Programme Section) for further advice.
The BA in Philosophy is based on a well-established intercollegiate programme that has a long and successful history. External students therefore benefit from the contributions of faculty from all the relevant Colleges in London. The programme has been designed to allow students to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to engage in philosophy. Students will be expected to articulate what they themselves think and defend their answers.
Successful completion of the BA degree with Honours may allow students to progress to postgraduate study in the degree field or a related area for the arts and humanities.
The Diploma in Philosophy is intended to appeal to students who would like a University of London award in Philosophy but do not feel ready to commit themselves to studying for a full degree programme and want to learn more about the subject of philosophy. The Diploma is also intended to appeal to students who do not satisfy the University’s entrance requirements for the degree. The Diploma gives such students the opportunity to gain access to the degree if their Diploma studies are successful. Students have to complete four units to be awarded the Diploma in Philosophy.
