A message from the Director of Laws Programme
One of the mainstays of University teaching has always been the giving of lectures, at which experienced teachers, who are experts in their particular fields, state their own view of the subject, discuss difficult points and draw attention to weaknesses in the arguments presented by the writers of standard textbooks. In the case of law, of course, all lecturers are at great pains to present their own analyses of the relevant statutory provisions and decisions of the courts. Listening to a good teacher is a very stimulating experience; moreover, the discipline of note-taking is a valuable form of intellectual training in its own right, as well as providing a platform from which to launch into the reading of the textbooks, cases and statutes.
If you are new to the External System and wish to meet fellow students and give yourself a head start in your studies OR if you have been studying for a while and want to consolidate your thoughts, join us at the London Laws Weekend courses.
The External System is organising a series of four intensive courses for the LLB degree in London in 2009-2010 each of which is held on two weekends. There are four weekends devoted to the Intermediate subjects and three for Finals subjects [but some optional Finals subjects will be taught at the ‘Intermediate’ weekends in order to minimise clashes between subjects]. This pattern of weekend courses reflects the need of students following Scheme B and Graduate Entry Route B to attend both Intermediate and Finals subjects in Year 2.

Library
To support you in your studies, the library provides a range of legal and multidisciplinary databases including LexisNexis, Westlaw and Justis. The student portal user name and password which you use to access the VLE also enables you to access the Online Library databases. This means that you only need one password for your portal, VLE and most Online Library databases.
