Study in Hong Kong
For a University of London Degree

London - a world class university with 150 years heritage of providing degrees by flexible and distance learning.

Today we have over 4,500 students who are studying in Hong Kong.  Many undergraduates are studying law, humanities and economics, management, finance and the social sciences.  At postgraduate level the LLM, MBA and health courses are popular.

Our qualifications are internationally recognized and portable. Students study and take their exams locally. In Hong Kong the exams are organised by the HKEAA, part of the Ministry of Education. However, if your work or family causes you to move you can take your studies with you as we have exam centres all over the world.

Many of our students in Hong Kong are working full-time while they study and appreciate the flexibility that our courses allow them. Some courses are supported by full-time and part-time/evening classes. To find out more see our Directory of Institutions. Students looking for financial support should see the Student Financial Assistance Agency website [external link] for details of the Continuing Education Fund and Non-means Tested Loan Scheme.

choose from our range of over 100 qualifications:

Either browse our full list of undergraduate programmes (for holders of A' levels, or of equivalent qualifications) or masters programmes or use our 'Find a course' facility.

If you don't hold A' levels, or equivalent qualifications, we offer several Diploma programmes that lead directly on to our degrees, like for example the Diploma of Economics. The diploma is a qualification in its own right and also provides an entry route to LSE led degrees. Alternatively our Diploma of Law provides you with an entry route to the LLB degree.

Please note. We are currently unable to accept applications for the following courses from anyone living in Hong Kong as our application for exemption of the courses cannot be made until the courses have commenced in the UK.

  • Diploma in the Common Law
  • Certificate of Higher Education in Theology
  • Diploma in Higher Education in Theology
  • Certificate of Higher Education in Philosophy, Religion and Ethics
  • Master of Science in Petroleum Geoscience
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Geoscience

Entry qualifications

All our courses have their own application deadlines and entrance requirements. Please consult our website or the course prospectus for further details. At undergraduate level it is possible to make some generalisations. For example, the application deadline is the 17 September 2010 and the general entrance requirements and course-specific entrance requirements are expressed in terms of UK GCE ‘A’ levels, UK GCE ‘AS’ levels and UK GCSE/GCE ‘O’ levels.

The University considers:

  • Hong Kong Advanced Levels (grades A-E) as equivalent to UK ‘A’ levels.
  • Hong Kong Advanced Supplementary (AS) Levels (grades A-E) as equivalent to UK ‘AS’ levels.
  • Hong Kong Certificate of Education (grades A-C) as equivalent to UK GCSE/ GCE ‘O’ levels.

The only exception to the above is the subject Use of English, which is not accepted by the University as a direct equivalent at ‘AS’ or ‘A’ level English. However, ‘AS’ level Use of English can be accepted as proof of English language proficiency. Many other qualifications can be accepted in lieu of ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels (e.g.Associate’s degrees) and each application will be considered on an individual basis. We require all applicants to demonstrate a certain level of competence in English.

Exemptions
If you hold a tertiary level qualification (e.g. Associate’s degrees and Diplomas) you may be eligible to apply for exemptions from our undergraduate degrees, allowing you to complete more quickly. Exemptions can only be considered once you have been accepted on to your chosen programme.
