All of our courses can be completed anywhere in the world by independent study (with the exception of the five undergraduate Diplomas listed below). However, on many of our undergraduate courses - and some of the postgraduate courses - students often choose to attend classes at a local institution and benefit from the support it can offer.
The type of support provided varies between institutions. Most teaching institutions provide full-time classes, regular part-time classes or occasional revision sessions. Others may provide online or correspondence support. You can also often benefit from social and recreational facilities, libraries and other services that institutions may be able to provide.
We officially recognise institutions that offer study support to External students within our quality assurance framework. These are known as recognised centres and have been awarded either Affiliate or Registered Centre status. Affiliate Centres have demonstrated a long-term commitment to quality of teaching, support and administration. Recognised centre status applies to specific programmes on named campuses. For detailed information on those institutions with either Affiliate or Registered Centre status, as well as more limited information on those institutions that have commenced the recognition process with a view to becoming a Registered Centre, please visit the Directory of Institutions.
Students must attend a recognised institution that has been listed as offering the programme on the Directory of Institutions by the University if they wish to register on any of the following courses:
If you are seeking additional support we advise that you wait for confirmation from the University that you are eligible for the course of your choice before enrolling at an institution and paying tuition fees. Enrolment at a local institution is not the same as registration as an External student with the University of London.
